More museums ought to do stuff like this. The National Museum of Natural History in Sofia, Bulgaria recently put together a display, The mushrooms – familiar or dangerous:
Briefly presented is kingdom Fungi – characteristics, distribution, and systematics. Photos and replicas show the most popular edible mushrooms and their poisonous counterparts, and how to distinguish them.
This information was found at a website called Science Centric. Science Centric looks like a good idea. However, with the exception of the News section, it doesn’t appear to have been update much.
The National Museum of Natural History in Sofia looks like a pretty cool place though. According to the museum website:
The National Museum of Natural History (NMNHS) has a history of almost one hundred and twenty years. It is the oldest museum in Bulgaria and the oldest and richest among the natural history museums on the Balkan Peninsula. It was founded in 1889 by the Royal Prince Ferdinand under the name Royal Prince’s Natural History Museum. At first it used to accommodate Prince Ferdinand’s personal collections of birds, mammals and butterflies.
Check out that cool mushroom poster that appears on the museum press release page announcing the mushroom showcase.
