A blog at Discover magazine, Fungus Behind the Irish Potato Famine Strikes the U.S., sounds the alarm on a surge of potato late blight disease (Phytophthora infestans) affecting potatoes and tomatoes on the East coast of the USA. I have noticed a number of other recent web articles popping up on this topic in the last week as well. This is the same disease that led to the Irish Potato Famine. Pretty good internal links in the blog leading to other information as well.
