There is this band from Texas, see. They are Fungi Girls (no girls included). They do like mushrooms though. Bassist Skyler Salinas recently took a moment to answer a few questions about the band.

MycoRant: Tell us a bit about the band.
Skyler: We’re a band of kids from suburban and rural Texas that make music. Jacob Bruce plays guitar and sings, Skyler Salinas plays drums and sometimes sings, and Deryck Barrera plays bass and never sings. Kind of a mix between garage rock and shoegaze, I guess.

MycoRant: Why “Fungi Girls?”
Skyler: The “Fungi” part was mainly because it sounded nice, but also because of our love of psilocybin mushrooms. “Girls” was because Deryck’s mother has always ironically referred us to us three boys as girls since we were little.

MycoRant: Where can people hear your music?
Skyler: You can find it on several websites for now, mainly MySpace, but we have a record coming out on Play Pinball Records and a cassette on Animal Image Search sometime relatively soon.

MycoRant: Why do you like psilocybin mushrooms so much?
Skyler: Good times. Nice feelings. Mind expansion/exploration.

MycoRant: Are you on shrooms right now?
Skyler: Unfortunately, no.

MycoRant: How many albums/songs have you recorded?
Skyler: A digitally released demo, one album, and some other unreleased/yet to be released songs.

MycoRant: What’s next for Fungi Girls?
Skyler: Anything that comes our way.
