Mycology Monday is a great idea thought up by Genevieve Lewis-Gentry (aka @MycoFun). Genevieve works in an herbarium. “I am not a professional mycologist,” she explains, “though I work with fungi in my profession, and I certainly do love mycology and botany. @Mycofun is a way for me to spread things mycologically (or cryptogamically) interesting. These tend to be things I also happen to find interesting.”
What is Mycology Monday? Well, it’s the day all interested twitter followers of mycology on twitter tweet something about fungi and include the hash tagged keyword #mycologymonday. Here’s what one looks like:
How exactly does one come up with an idea like #mycologymonday? Genevieve tells it like this. “I was at work this morning, thinking about alliterative twitter trends and hashtags, and then looking at a card on my desk with Amanita muscaria and a frog prince I thought, well I haven’t tweeted in a bit, time for #MycologyMonday! There was no in-depth thought about it, and I certainly don’t expect it to catch on, though it would be fun if it did!”
It would be fun if it did. Make it so, by sending out an interesting tweet that includes #mycologymonday!
