Mushroom Farm? Not in this Neighborhood!

In England, some folks are touchy about where mushroom farms should be located. At least that is the impression given in Mushroom factory plans rejected, an article appearing at the website of the BBC.

Greyfriars UK wanted to build a mushroom growing shed, staff building and package treatment plant at its site in Wath, near Ripon. The firm wanted to grow more mushrooms, rather than import them from abroad. Harrogate Borough Council refused to grant planning permission, citing concerns over traffic and the large scale of the development.

Come on people! It’s a mushroom farm!

According to the Greyfriars website, the company has been importing mushrooms from Poland.

Poland has gained a reputation for producing exceptional quality, low cost mushrooms. An excellent source of the more expensive and difficult to pick lines, Greyfriars’ imported Polish mushrooms arrive in the UK ready for despatch within just 27 hours.

Apparently trouble with the proposal to produce mushrooms in the UK was initially welcomed by the community, but signs of trouble arose earlier this year.
