Okay I agree. It’s a fungal protist, an Oomycete (commonly known as a water mold) occupying a place that is not exactly fungal, not exactly animal, not completely a typical protist. Oomyctes were formerly considered fungi, but not anymore (by most people who are into that sort of thing).
