Okay I agree. It&#8217;s a fungal protist, an Oomycete (commonly known as a water mold) occupying a place that is not exactly fungal, not exactly animal, not completely a typical protist. <a href="http://www.plantpath.wisc.edu/pp300-UW/Pathogen/fungi.html" target="_blank">Oomyctes</a> were formerly considered fungi, but not anymore (by most people who are into that sort of thing).</p>
