Members of the genus <em>Candida</em> (especially <em>Candida</em> <em>albicans</em>) are causative agents of &#8220;yeast&#8221; infections in humans. <em>Candida</em> is also a lethal agent of deep mycoses in immunodeficient patients. The research team includes members of the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT. The original research was published in <em>Nature</em>.</p>
<p>The article (and the MIT press release) says that <em>Candida</em> is related to bakers yeast. Well&#8230; close enough I guess.</p>
