Lockwood Heading for Brasil

Renowned mushroom photographer Taylor Lockwood is heading for Brasil (apparently also known as “Brazil”) soon on a mycological photo expedition. I learned this after I heard back from Taylor after I had sent him a message suggestion he consider contributing some fungal imagery to the Phylomon project (recently renamed “Phylo”). He showed some interest in that project stating, “That’s a good idea and opportunity. Unfortunately, I am jamming to get to Brazil (in two weeks) right now.”

I asked him about that planned trip and he was able to say this: “Yes. I’ll be going to Paraná to work with André de Meijer on a mushroom book of the Atlantic rainforest. After that I will head north to Natal (in the northeast below the mouth of the Amazon) to look for stinkhorns in the dunes near the ocean.”

And that’s not all. “Other factors permitting, I will go to the Amazon after that,” he added.

It certainly will be interesting to see what amazing photographs of strange and beautiful fungi Taylor comes up with on this trip. Taylor, who also operates the website FungiPhoto.com, is currently booking engagements for his Fall 2010 tour.

He sent me a couple of photos he took last year while on a U.S. tour and this seems like a good time to show them off. This first one is of a group of Amanita mushrooms from “rainy MA.” Taylor added, “For those who don’t know, this is unusual in that Amanitas rarely group like this.”

Fungal Computer Wallpaper From The Flying Kiwi

Everyone needs a good fungal desktop picture for their computer. Richard Seaman, aka “The Flying Kiwi” (hey how ’bout that Flight of the Conchords!) has some pretty good free ones available. A good desktop background should be fairly uniform in color (IMHO) so I am currently using the one featuring a troop of small Coprinus. It works quiet well.

Taylor Lockwood is on the Road

Well known photographer of fungi, Taylor Lockwood, is currently on tour through August 1st. He may be coming to a town near you. Check with your local mycological society to see if it has scheduled a show (the schedule isn’t posted at his website).

The Good, the Bad, and the Deadly
Taylor presents his new video: The Good, the Bad, and the Deadly, followed by a Q & A session.
