Every household needs a few wooden mushrooms to spruce up a bookshelf, awesomize a nick-knack display, or just to leave laying around someplace. Lots of places sell wood-turned mushrooms. Here are three guys who show how to turn some yourself on a wood lathe.

This is a tutorial illustrated with photos from woodworker Larry Hancock. Looks good.

I first went looking for real mushrooms for an example to start with. All the mushrooms in my woods have a thin cap even if it curls all the way back down to the stem so I hollow the under side of the top.

Darrel Feltmate says:

People like mushrooms. I am not sure why, but they are a steady seller for me at craft fairs. One of the reasons is that I turn a lot of small ones to sell at about $3.00 each. This means that I have to turn them fast and furious. This is good because after the first hundred or so a challenge is needed to keep the turning going.

In this one, Gregory Moreton shows how to turn a big ‘ole chunk of wood into a large garden-sized mushroom. I want one!

And, there is a slide-show video, Turning a Wooden Mushroom, posted at Fungal Visions.
