Richard Seaman, aka “The Flying Kiwi” (hey how ’bout that Flight of the Conchords!) has some pretty good free ones available. A good desktop background should be fairly uniform in color (IMHO) so I am currently using the one featuring a troop of small Coprinus. It works quiet well.
