Did you know that Wikipedia had a fungi portal? Me neither. You can put down Wikipedia all you want to, but in my view the day will come when it is recognized as the world’s most reliable and complete encyclopedia. No sense swimming upstream against it. Rather than fight it, you ought to help make it so.

The fungi portal contains basic information on fungi, links to to the latest articles, fun facts, and a list of ideas on how to contribute: Here’s the list of things to do:

• Assess some fungi articles.
• Contribute to open peer reviews on fungi articles.
• Comment on the content related to fungi that is currently a candidate for featured, good or valued status.
• Review, improve, expand or clean some of the newly created fungi-related articles.
• Expand some high priority fungus stubs.
• Expand or sort other fungi-related stubs.
• Add images to articles in the list of unillustrated fungi articles, or add more articles to the list.
• Write fungi-related articles from scratch. For ideas of needed articles, see the redlinks on-
  • Wikipedia:WikiProject Fungi/List of unwritten articles (high priority)
  • Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/Skysmith’s list of missing articles/Biology/Fungi
  • Members of Category:Lists of fungal species
• Help out with the fungi collaboration.
• Review the fungi articles flagged as needing attention.

If you have ever thought about editing a wiki, now’s the time to jump in. I was going to sign up and edit an article on enokitake mushrooms, because one of the reference links led to a page of cultivation photos with no context. It was hard to understand and didn’t add much to the article. I went back to do that today and the site had been marginally improved with captions on the photos. I decided to let it ride.
