You have to be a real low life to vandalize a Wikipedia page about fungus. But, apparently that is exactly what has been happening lately. The problem got to the the point where the page had to be protected from editing by new or unregistered users.
According to the history of the Fungus page, this got out of hand on December 3, 2009 and the protection notice appeared on the same day. The vandalism consisted of such edits as:
The use of the word ”mycology”, which is derived from the Greek ”mykes”/μύκης (mushroom) and ”logos”/λόγος (discourse),<ref>Alexopoulos ”et al”., p. 1.</ref> to denote the scientific study of fungi is thought to have originated in 1836 with English naturalist [[Miles Joseph Berkeley]]’s publication ”The English Flora of Sir James Edward Smith, Vol. 5.”<ref name=Ainsworth2>Ainsworth, p. 2.</ref>wich means brittny is realy stupide. this is a mesige from wiki not from robert gutierrez because robert alraedy knows this.
Thanks to the editor who is anonymously identified by the IP address 64.105.210.58 for being a real hose. And a real thanks to The Thing That Should Not Be, who fought back.
